Highland Montessori is a small, warm, and community-centered school located in a quiet San Mateo neighborhood. Founded in 1982 by Cecilia Boland-Walsh, Highland has supported young children and their families for more than 40 years.

Today, the school is led by her daughter, Molly Hanlon, who continues its strong foundation while thoughtfully incorporating current, research-based practices in early childhood education. Highland is intentionally small by design, allowing children to be deeply known and supported in a nurturing, home-like environment.

Our preschool and kindergarten program for children ages 2 to 6 blends Montessori foundations with inquiry-based, child-led learning. We place a strong emphasis on social-emotional development, creativity, and meaningful relationships, helping children build confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning.
